Beloved Fuller House dog, Cosmo, dies following complications from surgery

The beloved family dog from Netflix series Fuller House has sadly passed away.

Cosmo, the golden retriever who starred in the rebooted sitcom, died following complications from surgery. He was just four years old.

"We're sad to share that the Fullers' faithful dog Cosmo, who grew up on our set, passed away after complications from surgery," the show's official Instagram account announced on December 17.

"There will never be another quite like our boy. We'll miss him forever."

Candace Cameron Bure, who plays DJ Tanner on the series, also took to Instagram to pay tribute to her furry friend — who was the great-grandson of Comet, the Tanner family dog in the original '90s series, Full House. 

"Our sweet boy Cosmo is now running around in doggie heaven," wrote Bure, who reprised her role in the reboot. "I imagine he's playing with Comet right now.

"Cosmo has been in Fuller House since the start and we are heartbroken that he passed away during surgery complications," she added. "You'll be so missed love bug."

The sad news comes one month after the cast finished filming its fifth and final season. It was announced back in January that the Netflix reboot would not be returning for Season 6.

The original series ran for eight successful seasons from 1987 to 1995, and it launched the careers of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. Although the twins did not return for the reboot, original cast members Bob Saget (who played daggy dad Danny Tanner), John Stamos (who was the cool Uncle Jesse), and Jodie Sweetin (who played middle child Stephanie), were all on board.
