Daniel Radcliffe cringes over using racial slurs in his new movie: 'Those words have power for a reason'

Harry Potter and white supremacists aren't two things people normally associate with each other, but that's about to change.

Don't worry, Harry isn't about to go wizard rogue by getting a swastika tattoo. His portrayer Daniel Radcliffe plays an FBI agent who goes undercover as a white supremacist in the new race drama Imperium.

Though the character's trying to quash a potential race war, he must use some pretty unseemly language. Daniel, 27, talked to CBS This Morning about the challenge of using the N-word onscreen.

It doesn't sound like it was a career-best experience.

"It's horrible -- even though you're acting, it's really horrible to say those words," Daniel said. "I found it so. I would, like, incessantly run up to the people I was throwing these slurs at between takes and say, 'I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry.'

"Those words have power for a reason. Yeah, they feel very bad to say."

Daniel has taken some rather unlikely roles since ending his Harry Potter run (including a farting corpse in this year's Swiss Army Man), but his racist turn may have a big pay-off.

IndieWire calls him a "frighteningly believable neo-Nazi", adding that Imperium "proves once and for all that he's capable of creating his own movie magic".

Edward Norton scored an Oscar nomination for playing a neo-Nazi in the 1998 film American History X. Could Imperium's hate speech help Daniel score himself some Academy love?

That would be more than magical.
