Molly Ringwald reveals why a reunion of The Breakfast Club never happened

They were the Friends friends a decade before the world caught a glimpse of Jennifer Aniston's hair. They launched fashion trends, a musical chart-topper (Simple Mind's 'Don't You Forget About Me'), and sadly, no sequels.

Now Molly Ringwald, one of the stars of the 1985 high-school comedy The Breakfast Club, has explained why there's never been a reboot or reunion of the cast, which also included Ally Sheedy, Judd Nelson, Emilio Estevez and Anthony Michael Hall.

Blame Charlie Sheen's brother (and Paula Abdul's ex-husband), Emilio Estevez.

"He really won't have anything to do with anything having to do with [the movie]," Molly, 48, said during an interview on The Morning Show.

"That was just the way he chose to handle it. He's a successful director. He has a vineyard. He's just like 'That's the past, and that's not really what I want to do'."

Well, it's not like he's Jennifer Aniston. While Emilio, 54, has gone on to direct a handful of features, including Bobby, a 2006 ensemble drama starring Oscar winners Anthony Hopkins and Helen Hunt as well as Lindsay Lohan, he hasn't been exactly racking up screen credits recently.

Meanwhile, Molly has continued to work steadily, and currently co-stars with Beverly Hills 90120 alum Jason Priestley on the family sitcom Raising Expectations.

Hey, The Breakfast Club meets 90210? It's not the reunion the world has been waiting for, but as retro mash-ups go, Molly and Brandon Walsh will do just fine.
