EXCLUSIVE: The Voice's Ellie Drennan rips a page from Taylor and Adele's playbook on writing songs about exes
She may be only 17, but last year's The Voice champ Ellie Drennan has already learned some valuable lessons.
Her former The Voice coach Jessie J taught her a lot about singing and life ("Practice makes better - not perfect"), and we have a feeling she may have picked up a thing or two about dealing with exes through song from Adele ("my biggest inspiration") and maybe even Taylor Swift.
Chatting with TheFIX, Ellie revealed that her latest single, 'Hard Love', is about an ex who shall remain nameless.
"I'd rather write something that I can related to than sing something that it's just words coming out of my mouth," she said.
Ellie also talked to us about her ultimate collaborator (Adele, of course), whom she's rooting for this season on The Voice (Team Jessie, of course) and, of course, her famously ever-changing hair.
Oh, and she also sang her new single. Keep watching the video above to see her exclusive intimate performance of 'Hard Love' after the interview.
Catch up on episodes of The Voice on 9Now, and tune in to the grand final on Sunday at 7pm on Nine.
'Hard Love' is out now on iTunes.
