Felicity and Thirtysomething star Erich Anderson dies aged 67: 'A beautiful human'

Erich Anderson, known for Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter and Felicity has died after a "brutal struggle with cancer". He was 67.

The news was confirmed by the actor's family in an emotional social media statement.

Anderson's wife Saxon Trainor shared a message from her late husband's brother.

Michael O'Malley remembered his brother as "a smart and funny guy, a fantastic cook".

"I'll miss him but his ordeal is over," O'Malley wrote.

The post was inundated with condolences from loved ones and Anderson's co-stars.

Felicity star Greg Grunberg recalled talking about the show recently with Anderson.

Anderson starred as Keri Russell's on-screen father Dr. Edward Porter for several episodes from 1998 across its four season run until 2002.

"Such a beautiful human. I'm so sorry for your loss. ❤️" Grunberg wrote.

Another of Anderson's Felicity co-stars, Eve Gordon, said the star was a "magnificent part of the world".

"I loved him. I wish you'd known him, there was no one like him. So funny, so open to whatever the day brought him, so wickedly cynical and joyous at once," she wrote.

Anderson was best known for starring as Rob Dier in the 1984 horror installment Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter.

The horror film was his first ever movie role after landing a small performance in a 1983 episode of For Love and Honor.

Before getting into acting Anderson graduated university with a degree in biochemistry and molecular biology.

After launching into an acting career in the 80s the star appeared for a six episode arc on the series Bay City Blues as well as The Paper Chase, Hard Copy and Dallas.

In the 90s Anderson landed one his biggest roles in the ABC series Thirtysomething.

The actor had the recurring part of Billy Sidel on the show who marries Ellyn Warren, played by actress Polly Draper.

Over the years Anderson continued to appear in various television series including Star Trek: The Next Generation, Boomtown, Close to Home, NCIS, NYPD Blue and The Mentalist amongst others.

In 2017 he starred for several episodes in the show Bosch and more recently in the 2020 show Interrogation.
