Emmys 2019: Natasha Lyonne's clapping compared to Nicole Kidman after footage goes viral
Natasha Lyonne is giving Nicole Kidman a run for her money.
The Russian Doll star almost broke the internet today when she was spotted during the 71st annual Emmy Awards clapping as bizarrely as the Aussie actress did back at the 2017 Academy Awards.
Lyonne was hard to miss in her gold Gucci gown when cameras panned the room of the Microsoft Theater in LA on September 23, with footage capturing the 40-year-old making wide, exaggerated movements while clapping. And the internet was loving it.

"Natasha Lyonne clapping like that deserves an Emmy," one Twitter user tweeted of the star, who was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for Russian Doll but lost to Fleabag's Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
"Natasha's clap is finally getting the recognition it deserves," another fan tweeted.

Other Twitter users weren't as complimentary. "Is Natasha Lyonne clapping or trying to catch a fly?" one commented, with another saying what most were thinking, "When did Nicole Kidman teach Natasha Lyonne how to clap?"

Indeed, Lyonne's actions were quickly compared to the same manoeuvre Kidman made two years ago, when she too went viral for clapping like a seal during the Oscars telecast.
While Lyonne has yet to speak out about the hilarious comparison, Kidman explained herself on The Kyle & Jackie O Show months after the 2017 incident.
"It was really awkward," the Big Little Lies star admitted on air at the time. "I was like, gosh, I want to clap. I don't want to not be clapping — which would be worse, right? 'Why isn't Nicole clapping?'
"So therefore I'm clapping, but it was really difficult because I had a huge ring on that was not my own but was absolutely gorgeous. And I was terrified of damaging it!"
Perhaps that explains Lyonne's clapping as well? After all, she too was wearing a huge ring...
