Emmys 2018: Aussie comedian Hannah Gadsby stole the show at the Emmy Awards with her hilarious presentation

Aussie comedian Hannah Gadsby took viewers by storm with her Netflix special, Nanette, but now she's gained a whole new following after wowing Hollywood while presenting at today's 70th annual Emmy Awards.

The 40-year-old from Tasmania may have appeared uncomfortable on the stage -- a schtick viewers of shows would be familiar with -- but there was no denying that she brought the laughs.

"This is… not normal? The world's gone a bit crazy. I mean, for somebody like me -- a nobody, from nowhere -- gets this sweet gig, free suit, new boots, just 'cause I don't like men?" she said while presenting the award for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series.

"That's a joke, of course. Just jokes, fellas, calm down. #NotAllMen, but a lot of 'em," she reiterated. "No, it is just jokes, but what are jokes these days? We don't know. Nobody knows what jokes are. Especially not men! Am I right, fellas? That's why I'm presenting alone."

The laughs kept coming when Gadsby then announced that the winner was The Crown director Stephen Daldry, who wasn't there to accept his award.

"Probably because of me. So I'll just leave now,"  said Gadsby before awkwardly and hilariously backing away from the stage.

Her monologue was so well received that some Twitter users said it was the highlight of the show. Some were even calling for Gadsby to host the show next year.
