Elton John reveals woman went into labour at his Coffs Harbour concert

Elton John has revealed a woman went into labour at his Coffs Harbour concert on Tuesday night — and in a sweet gesture, he sent her a care package to celebrate the safe arrival of her baby.

The singer shared the happy news with the crowd on Wednesday during his second concert in the NSW coastal town, announcing on stage that Mary Wunderlich had gone into labour at the show.

"Last night, someone nearly gave birth at the show during 'Tiny Dancer'," John told the audience. "They were rushed to hospital and they had a beautiful little boy.

"That's what we do to people. So if any of you are pregnant tonight, watch out," he joked.

Later Wunderlich took to Facebook to confirm that she and partner Brendan McGregor welcomed their son safely after a mad dash to nearby Coffs Harbour Base Hospital. It was a little scary at the time, given the baby — whose name has yet to be released — was six weeks premature. 

"So a lil update.... we officially welcomed our beautiful son yesterday at 11:10, after the strangest 24 hours of our lives! Mary and bubs are both doing extremely well," Wunderlich wrote in her post. "Baby McGregor is a warrior and has surprised even his doctor with his turn around recovery. 

"We did want to say a huge thank you to Sir Elton John, the production crew, the saint johns medics and all the beautiful doctors and nurses at the base hospital. We are so grateful and beyond overwhelmed at the nurturing spirit of everyone," the proud mum continued. 

"We had a surprise visit from a member of the production crew today who gifted little baby McGregor on behalf of everyone with some merchandise so that we'll never forget his entry into the world. Best. Story. Ever!"
