Elsa Pataky climbs out of car window after driving through flooded Byron Bay street

Actress Elsa Pataky needed rescuing after she got stuck in flood waters in the NSW coastal town of Byron Bay.

The actress was driving her 4WD in the region yesterday when she got stranded on a flooded roadway with her three young children and friend Luke Zocchi, who is her husband Chris Hemsworth's personal trainer.

"What two days of rain can do," the 44-year-old captioned an Instagram Stories video she filmed from her car while waiting for help. "A bit too optimistic? I was so sure I could cross."

In another video, the actress said, "I got stuck. Awesome. Oh God, oh God what am I doing?"

The Fast & Furious star could then be seen climbing out her car window.

"My only option... through the window," she explained, before the footage cut to several other men on the other side of the flooded road, preparing to tow the vehicle.

Pataky and Hemsworth have lived in Byron Bay since 2015, one year after reportedly buying a $7 million property on the coastal town.

They have since demolished all eight bedrooms to make way for their dream home, which is now reportedly worth a whopping $20 million. With five bedrooms, 10 toilets, a seven-car garage, 50-metre infinity pool and man-made pond, it resembles a resort and its size has been compared to a Bunnings warehouse.

But it was the peace and privacy that really attracted the couple to the area. They currently live at the home with their three children, India, eight, and six-year-old twin sons Tristan and Sasha. 

"My daughter started to get scared of photos, actually. So we realised this is not a way to live, because you just become enclosed in a house," Pataky told Vogue Australia in January. "I love nature and I love to be outside, and I wanted my kids to have that freedom, so we decided to leave.

"My goal was always, when I have kids, to be in a place that's not the city. I want them to grow up in nature, because I crave that."
