Ed Sheeran pranked Courteney Cox by sending an NSFW 'gimp mask' to her home

Ed Sheeran got candid about his unlikely friendship with Courteney Cox.

During an appearance on The Late Late Show With James Corden on Monday, the British musician opened up about how he and the Friends star became close, as well as revealing the cheeky NSFW prank he once pulled when he stayed at her home during one of his trips to LA.

"She loves music, she's jamming all the time. She picked up the guitar. But she was like, 'Any time you want to stay, let me know,'" Sheeran shared of Cox. "And then literally every single time I've been back to Los Angeles since then, I've stayed there."

Sheeran then explained the Alexa device inside Cox's home.

"She has this Alexa thing in her house and she goes, 'Oh this is wonderful, this is my Alexa. I can just order whatever on this," Sheeran explained. "So she walks out of the room and... do you know what a gimp mask is? You know, like, an S&M leather gimp mask. So she walks out of the room and I go, 'Alexa, order me a gimp mask.' And it goes, 'OK, Courteney!'"

"Unbeknownst to me, Courteney's assistant opened the post, and she finds this mask and instantly goes, 'Oh, I don't think I was meant to see that,' and leaves it on Courteney's bed," he added. "And Courteney comes up, and she's like, 'Where did this come from?'"

The 'Bad Habits' singer revealed that Cox eventually found out about his joke, but he's kept it going by ordering more and hiding them in unusual places.

"Every time I go back there I order another gimp mask. She has maybe 12," he laughed. "I hide them in people's bedrooms. They'll go in a drawer and find this leather S&M mask.

"She had two people come look at her piano to come and buy it, two absolute strangers come into her house that I found out about. So I left a couple of masks on the piano."

It is clear that Cox and Sheeran have a close friendship after meeting through a mutual friend — Sheeran revealed that he was the one to introduce Cox to her boyfriend, Johnny McDaid.

The pair recently teamed up with Elton John to pay tribute to Lisa Kudrow, singing 'Tiny Dancer' while replacing the lyrics to 'Tony Danza', in reference to Kudrow's character's hilarious mistake about the song in Friends.
