Dog the Bounty Hunter was targeted by a $631K credit card scam

Duane 'Dog' Chapman was recently the target of a major scam.

The 66-year-old Dog the Bounty Hunter star was offered US$430,000 (approx. $631,000) to fly to Dubai and make a speech.

Dog's literary agent, Alen Nevins, told Page Six that the scam began when Dog's manager receiving an email, from someone claiming to be from the office of Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Deputy Prime Minister of United Arab Emirates. The email offered Dog the rare opportunity to speak at an economic empowerment convention on August 31.

Nevins initially agreed to sign the contract and soon received a check that amounted to US$430,000. However, it wasn't long before Dog's agent picked up on some red flags.

"We were pretty sure by day three this thing was a scam," Nevins told the publication.

Nevins contacted the hotel where the event was meant to take place and was told by staff that they knew nothing about the convention.

"They made big mistakes this week that really blew the whistle on themselves," Nevins said.

The next red flag was when the scammers asked for their personal bank account details and the organisers communicated that there was a hold up with wiring the money.

"The contract this group sent had all the rights clauses and everything you would expect," he explained. "So these scammers have some inside info."

It's been a tough year for Dog. In late June, Dog's wife, Beth Chapman tragically passed away after a long battle with cancer.

"It's 5:32 in Hawaii, this is the time she would wake up to go hike Koko Head mountain," he tweeted the morning of her death. "Only today, she hiked the stairway to heaven. We all love you, Beth. See you on the other side."
