Denise Richards says actors once walked off set during the filming of Drop Dead Gorgeous

More than 20 years after she starred as Becky Leeman in the 1999 cult flick Drop Dead Gorgeous, Denise Richards is letting fans in on some behind-the-scenes secrets.

While appearing on PeopleTV's Couchsurfing, the 49-year-old recalled how one scene from the film caused a number of actors to walk off the set.

Speaking to the show's host, Lola Ogunnaike, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star revealed that her love song to a Jesus crucifix doll for the talent competition section of the film's beauty pageant (watch the clip above) didn't go down too well with some of the cast.

"So when I did that scene, the background, a lot of them left because they were offended that I was dancing with Jesus."

She added, "They didn't read the script. I'm Catholic by the way. Yeah, a few walked out. We shot in Minnesota."

While Richards wasn't there to witness the incident, the actress said she heard about it afterwards.

"No, I was told. Because when they're on me, my close-up, usually then anyone who's an extra in the background or you know, they don't need to be there and just for the wide shot. So, I did not know that some left. "

Recognising that time's have changed since she shot the scene, Richards pondered whether or not the scene would work now.

"I mean look, he's on my back, that's not good either. I don't know if that would fly now."

The comedy was shot in a mockumentary style and starred Amy Adams, Kirsten Dunst, the late Brittany Murphy, Kirstie Alley and Allison Janney. Set in a small town in Minnesota, the film is about a beauty pageant where the contestants die in mysterious ways.

In July last year, Richards celebrated the hit movie's 20th anniversary, sharing her iconic Jesus dance performance.
