David Fincher's haunting comments on 'duplicitous' Ben Affleck: 'If I was his wife, I would be very suspicious'

Rumours surfaced this week that Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner's split was caused by Ben's alleged infidelity.

Looking back at Gone Girl's DVD commentary from 2014, director David Fincher may have been hinting at that possibility the entire time. 

Speaking about the star's role as a cheating husband in Gone Girl, David explained how Ben's so good at all the subtle gestures because he's so "duplicitous". Oh snap.

"This is something that Ben is extraordinarily good at," David said. "When he has to cook up a phone conversation, when has to hear somebody on the other end of the phone. It's kind of stunning how...if I was his wife, I think I would be very suspicious always of whoever just called. 

"[In the film,] he has to do these things in the foreground where he takes out his phone and looks at it and he puts it away so his sister doesn't see it. There are people who do that and it's too pointed. But Ben is very very subtle and there's a kind of indirectness to the way he can do those things. Probably because he's so duplicitous."

Wow. Either David Fincher has an incredibly dry sense of humour, or he has Ben, 42, all figured out.
