Dave Hughes’ co-star takes swipe at comedian ahead of TV premiere: ‘Addicted to nonsense’
Aussie comedian Nina Oyama appears to have taken a pointed jab at co-star Dave ‘Hughesy’ Hughes’ ahead of the premiere of comedy competition Class Clowns.
Hughes and Oyama appear as teammates in the ABC program, though some clues in Oyama’s recent social media post hinted that she and Hughesy don’t have the same rapport they used to.

In a social media caption promoting Class Clowns, Oyama wrote: “Hello here are some reasons to watch Class Clowns ! 1) I’m in it. 2) I do a flip (sort of).”
Then points three and four of Oyama’s post seemed to take aim at co-star Hughes’ who has transitioned into a self-described “political agitator” and commentator in the later months of 2026.
“3) it’s made by a huge team of amazing people – comics, producers, writers, camera crew, makeup artists, runners, editors etc. whose incredible work shouldn’t be ruined by one old guy who is addicted to espousing nonsense on the internet.
“4) My team mate does not say the word “Albo” once. (A miracle I didn’t appreciate enough at the time) 5) We had a good time! At the time!”

In a teaser for the show, Oyama joked with Hughes that “our minds are connected”.
It’s been more than nine months since Oyama and Hughes worked together when the program was filmed back in January and it seems things have has since soured.
“Safe to say I have unconnected my mind since this was filmed,” Oyama said online.
It seems the pair did enjoy working together at the time.

Oyama shed light on her working relationship with Hughes when one of her followers commented: “Must have been really hard working alongside a cooker like him.”
“ngl it was actually pretty fun at the time (January, when life was simpler),” Oyama replied.
In Class Clowns, Oyama and Hughes, together with Becky Lucas and Matt Okine and Luke McGregor and Bron Lewis are divided into three houses to tackle different challenges based on school subjects.
Comedian Julia Morris heads the show as principal.
Hughes’ shift into political commentary has raised eyebrows in recent months, with the veteran stand-up increasingly using his social media platforms to fire off his take on national issues.
Most recently, the comedian unleashed a tirade over rising interest rates.
The transition has marked a stark departure from his traditional observational humour and cementing his new status as an outspoken social commentator.
