Dave Hughes apologises to Carrie Bickmore's young son for calling him an 'a-hole' on air

Dave Hughes felt so bad after calling Carrie Bickmore's son, Oliver Lange, an "a--hole" live on the Carrie & Tommy show that he went out of his way to apologise to the 11-year-old. Only problem was, the weather wouldn't let him.

The radio presenter planned a grand apology that involved an aircraft and some skywriting but his efforts were thwarted by the cloudy Melbourne sky.

"Now Ollie, I want you to look up right now, look up to the sky," Hughes asked as the youngster stood on the street with his mum, waiting for the apology in the sky. "The clouds mean the skywriting isn't possible today. Never mind I paid up to 10 thousand dollars, but you can't see it because it's above the clouds."

Good thing the 48-year-old had a Plan B.

"It's not my A-grade plan but I hope it's gonna do the job," said Hughes, as a truck drove past with the giant message, "I'm sorry Ollie! Calling you an A-hole makes me an A-hole."

The comedian then continued his apology tour by telling the young man, "I am the A-hole you are not an A-hole — you are a great son to your mother and everyone else loves you. Do you accept my apology, Ollie?"

While Hughes' apology was indeed accepted, Bickmore's co-host, Tommy Little, wondered why the photo on the truck was of Hughes, not Ollie.

"I want to point out that you had the opportunity to put a young man's face on the outside of this truck but instead you put your own next to the apology," said Little.

But it was fine with Ollie, who then proceeded to throw a tennis ball at Hughes' face like it was target practice. Call it even, then?
