Kathy Griffin hospitalised in 'coronavirus isolation ward' but can't get tested

Kathy Griffin hasn't been able to get tested for coronavirus, despite being hospitalised in a "COVID-19 isolation ward" with "unbearably painful symptoms".

The TV host took to Instagram on Wednesday to reveal her condition, as well as taking aim at President Donald Trump for allegedly "lying" about the rate of coronavirus testing in the US.

Sharing photos of her isolation room, herself wearing a face mask, and a screenshot of a recent tweet from Trump, Griffin called for more testing in the states.

"Just reported that the United States has done far more 'testing' than any other nation, by far!" read the Trump tweet Griffin shared. "In fact, over an eight day span, the United States now does more testing than what South Korea (which has been a very successful tester) does over an eight week span. Good Job!"

But Griffin, who shared the Instagram post from her hospital bed, said the President is lying.

"He's lying," Giffin claimed. "I was sent to the #COVID19 isolation ward room in a major hospital ER from a separate urgent care facility after showing UNBEARABLY PAINFUL symptoms. The hospital couldn't test me for #coronavirus because of CDC (Pence task force) restrictions."

She also hashtagged the post #TESTTESTTEST, calling for more testing in the US as the virus sweeps the nation.

Griffin lost her mother, Maggie, on St. Patrick's day after a long battle with dementia, and now she is facing a health battle of her own.

Though she has not been tested for COVID-19 yet, it is believed her symptoms are in line with typical symptoms of the virus.

Despite the US reporting more than 65,000 cases of COVID-19, second only to China and Italy, there is talk the nation may reduce restrictions on social gatherings and lift lockdowns in the coming weeks.

Yesterday President Trump said he wanted the country "opened up and just raring to go by Easter", adding that he looks forward to seeing "packed churches" in April.

But health organisations are pushing for stricter measures over the coming months and have spoken out against Trump's plans to "open up" the US any time soon.

"I'm sure that we have doctors that would say, 'Let's keep it closed for two years,'" Mr Trump said. "No, we got to get it open."
