Corey Feldman sobs over Today Show performance backlash: 'It's not okay to call us freaks, weirdos, losers'
Not everyone is standing by Corey Feldman after his Today Show performance.
In a since-deleted Facebook Live video, the former child star broke down in tears over the negative feedback he received after singing and dancing to a song from his fifth studio album, Angelic 2 the Core, on the live US show.
The 45-year-old was joined in the Facebook clip by a member of his backup band, "Corey's Angels", named Courtney Anne who refers to herself as Corey's "maingel".
"We just wanted to tell everybody that, like, it's been really painful," Corey said. "We put ourselves out there and we did the best that we could. And, like, I've never had such mean things said about me. Like constantly."
The performance was branded "bizarre" and "weird" by various media outlets, and Twitter commenters were quick to chime in with their own cruel responses.
"It was a song, okay? It wasn't that weird," the Stand By Me and Goonies actor added. "I'm sorry if it's not good enough for you, but you don't have to beat us up… We can't get out of bed right now. We're petrified to even go out... And I'm sorry, but we just wanted the world to know, like, we're really freaked out over this and it's really not fair… It's not okay, it's not acceptable to call us freaks, weirdos, losers, whatever."
But a slew of celebrity fans have rushed to Corey's defense, including Pink, Kesha, and Stand By Me costar Jerry O'Connell.
"This just broke my heart," Kesha posted on Instagram. "I wanna reach out to Corey Feldman in a kind way and say that you have to not read that s---. People can be so horrible and mean online and it can BREAK you. Do you, f--- everyone… It's easy to sit at a computer and talk s---. it's not easy to perform in front of millions. Keep your head up. Normal is BORING."
"Well I love ya @Corey_Feldman and I know how much it takes to get up there and do your thing," Pink added on Twitter. "Keep your head up and know that you're loved."
"Proud of you," Jerry tweeted with a link to the performance.
And now, US Today Show hosts Billy Bush and Tamron Hall have invited Corey back to do a second performance.
"Come back, Corey," requested Billy on-air. "Give us an encore!"
