Chrissy Teigen is mourning the sudden loss of her father, Ron Teigen Sr., who died this week aged 86.
The model and author, 40, said in an emotional Instagram post announcing her father’s death: “Yesterday I woke up with a daddy and went to bed without one.”

Teigen said the day began like every other, with a “hurried shower”, answering emails and getting dressed up for a friend’s birthday.
“And then my dad just like… f---ing died,” she said.
The TV personality had believed she was prepared for the moment, but when it happened she realised she definitely was not.
“I thought that since we talk about it, and I’ve come to terms with him always having been an ‘old dad’, that I wouldn’t have fallen to the ground the way I did,” she said.
Alongside her tribute, Teigen shared a video of her dad complaining about how sick he was of salmon.

In the comments, she explained that he was talking about how much he loved raising her in the US Pacific Northwest – except for the abundance of salmon.
“If you didn’t know my dad, my dad hated nearly everything in the world that wasn’t a bass guitar, swing dancing, wood carving, animals, YouTube, or his family,” Teigen shared.
“I have hundreds and hundreds of videos of him just being mad at things he isn’t even doing, watching, or eating. They make me so happy now.”

She said she had reflected on her relationship with her dad during a trip away a couple of months ago, and had the opportunity to tell him how she felt in a heartfelt letter.
“I wrote my dad a letter about how grateful I was for him,” Teigen wrote.
“About how hard he worked for us growing up and how much I love him. I am forever grateful for the moment I handed him the letter, and all our years before.”
She concluded with a message for her dad.
“God I love you so much. I will talk to you every night,” she said. “Thank you for being such a great dad. Until we complain again.”

“We love you so much Papa Ron. I’m so glad you got to spend so much time with your grandbabies,” he wrote.
“I loved seeing you beam with pride at the beautiful family you helped create.”
Other celebrities, including Jenna Dewan, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Kerry Washington, also shared their condolences.
Teigen Sr. previously made headlines in 2013 when he got a tattoo of his daughter’s face to celebrate her 33rd birthday.
He also appeared in A Legendary Christmas with John & Chrissy, the couple’s Christmas variety show, in 2018.
