Chris Rock reveals truth behind addiction that ended 18-year marriage to Malaak Compton-Rock

Comedian Chris Rock has admitted that his addiction to adult content contributed to the deterioration of his 18-year marriage to Malaak Compton-Rock.

The comedian and actor, 61, confessed that he “was not a great husband” in an interview with GQ Magazine.

“I watched a lot of porn. I don’t watch porn anymore. I haven’t watched porn in five, six years.”

Rock reflected on his past behaviour that lead to the breakdown of his marriage, which included “not listening, not being kind” and cheating with three women.

“It’s not anything I’m proud of, but it’s something I had to go through,” he said.

He went on to compare his mistakes to a Marvel Superhero, adding he had to “test his powers” before being humbled.

“They’re racing trains, and they’re lifting ocean liners, and they try to go to the sun, then they crash down because they realise they’re not God,” Rock said.

“I tested my powers. I definitely realised I wasn’t God or anywhere near him, and I was severely humbled, as I should have been.”

Rock and Compton-Rock were married in 1996 and had two children Lola, 24, and Zahra, 22, before the pair split in 2014.

“After much contemplation and 19 years of marriage, Chris and I have decided to go our separate ways,” Compton-Rock said in a statement at the time.

“Being fortunate enough to lead a life of service by working with those most vulnerable makes me well aware of life’s blessings, even when faced with difficulties.”

Their divorce was finalised in 2016.

The pair remain on good terms, and reunited only recently to celebrate Zahra’s graduation from the University of Southern California.

Rock is rumoured to be dating a new woman, DJ Simone Henault, according to People Magazine.

The pair were snapped taking a romantic stroll around Manhattan in April, and were even seen sharing a kiss.

He previously dated actress Megalyn Echikunwoke from 2016 to 2020.
