Chris Lilley spotted filming new series in an afro & African inspired dress

It seems Chris Lilley will be returning to the screen with some new material as the controversial comedian has been spotted around town filming some questionable scenes for his upcoming 10 part series.

Lilley, 43, who is most well known for his TV shows Summer Heights High and spinoffs Ja'mie: Private School Girl and Jonah from Tonga, was snapped on set for his latest project donning a large afro and an African-inspired looking dress while feeding a camel.

Just last year, the Logie winner found himself in hot water over his character S.mouse from his TV series Angry Boys when a remixed video surfaced of the comedian dressed in blackface singing racially insensitive slurs.

The song which is about a child who gets hit by a truck appeared on social media just a week after a white Australian was sentenced to just three years for the death of Elijah Doughty.

At the time, Lilley apologised but also was quick to distance himself from the video stating that it was fan-made and not endorsed by him at all.

However even this was not the first time that the multi-character comic has found himself in trouble over the use of blackface.

For his character Jonah Takalua for Jonah from Tonga, Lilley would regularly wear dark brown makeup to darken his skin tone and perpetuated stereotypes causing outrage in New Zealand which resulted in the show being pulled from the air.

This latest move however is surprising given his history with offending audiences for his portrayal of diverse characters.

Not much is known about the new show except that it is rumoured to air on Netflix alongside the rest of his portfolio.
