Chris Hemsworth starring in Hulk Hogan biopic

He’s already starred alongside one hulk, now Chris Hemsworth is set to take on the mantel himself -- though in a decidedly less green way.

Reports have come out that Hemsworth has signed on to portray iconic wrestler Hulk Hogan in a new biopic, which will explore Hogan’s rise to fame and early years as one of the world’s biggest wrestling personalities.

Though some may know him only as ‘the guy with a huge white handlebar moustache’, Hogan was one of the most influential wrestlers of his time, often facing off against major names like Andre the Giant and Brock Lesnar.

Hogan himself will be acting as a consultant on the film, which is set to drop on Netflix, and is likely very pleased with Hemsworth’s casting.

Just a few years ago when asked about the possibility of a film about his life Hogan had pegged Hemsworth as the hunky beefcake he’d like to play a younger version of himself if a movie ever was made.

"I think we need a serious, serious actor that knows what he’s doing," Hogan told Toronto’s Cape Breton Post in 2013.

"You know who I thought would be good? That guy that did that action movie ‘Thor.'"

Born as Terry Gene Bollea, Hogan began wrestling in the late 1970s and rose to fame in the '80s, going on to become a 12-time world wrestling champion and one of the most recognised wrestlers in the world.

Hogan enjoyed a long career with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE, formerly World Wrestling Federation) until consecutive sex tape and racism scandals ended his wrestling career in 2015.

Last year he returned to WWE to be reinstated into the WWE Hall of Fame and make several appearances on pay-per-view events and network programs, his appearances proving that Hulkmania lives on for many wrestling fans.

Todd Phillips, director of all three Hangover movies, will team up with writers Scott Silver and John Pollono to explore Hogan’s rise to international wrestling fame, but sources have said the film won’t delve into scandals in his later life.

In an exclusive The Hollywood Reporter revealed that the flick has been described as an origin story, hinting that if it’s successful there could be follow-up films in the pipeline.

Looks like Hemsworth better start pounding those protein shakes and working on his wrestling finishers.

We can't help but hope he'll use a fake moustache though, we're not sure he could pull off the handlebar full time.
