Live-stream glitch exposes Chinese vlogger for using facial filter to appear younger

A popular Chinese blogger who had been secretly using a face app to alter her appearance has been exposed online. 

Video blogger Qiaobiluo Dianxia, aka 'Your Highness Qiao Biluo', was outed as a 58-year-old woman after a computer glitch during a live stream removed a filter she was using to trick fans into thinking she was young and glamorous.

None of her 100,000 subscribers knew that Dianxia had been secretly using a filter on her face during her countless performances on Douyu, a popular live-sharing website in China. 

She has made a name for herself as a singer on the live-sharing platform, with many describing her as a "cute goddess" with a "sweet and healing voice". In fact, Dianxia has reportedly collected thousands of dollars in monetary gifts from her loyal fans. According to China's Global Times, some fans have even given Dianxia more than 100,000 Yuan (approx. $21,000).

But on July 25, during a joint live-stream with fellow Chinese blogger Qingzi, Dianxia's secret was exposed.

The middle-aged woman began her live stream with a filter covering her face, telling fans, "I can't show my face until I receive gifts worth 100,000 Yuan. After all, I'm a good-looking host."

When the donations started to flow in, the filter suddenly disappeared — and so did her viewers. The vlogger hadn't realise that the filter faded until she noticed her VIP fans started exiting in droves.

The vlogger's account has since been suspended.
