Cate Blanchett says she has a 'politically incorrect' habit of picking up accents

She's one of Australia's most famous actors who is set to star in the much anticipated Ocean's 8, but even Cate Blanchett admits she has some bad habits.

Blanchett, 48, has revealed she has a "politically incorrect" habit of picking up other accents when she travels.

On Sunday's The Project, the Oscar-winner said that she picks up "lilts" when visiting other countries.

"I have this terrible thing that I do and my kids are so embarrassed, when I'm in, around Americans, I take on an American kind of lilt, and they're like, 'Mum you're doing that thing again.'"

She continued, "When I go to China I can't help it, I start to speak with a slight [accent] and really it's so politically incorrect… my kids are so embarrassed."

The Carol actor has firmly rooted herself as an avid supporter and campaigner for equal rights in showbiz, something she continued to champion on last night's episode of The Project.

While promoting her upcoming flick Ocean's 8, the mum of four addressed the often repeated myth that women don't support each other in the movie business.

"They're [myths] perpetuated by male journalists," she said matter of factly.

Blanchett's Ocean's 8 co-star rapper Awkwafina, who sat next to her during the interview, also chimed in on the topic.

"What's not a good story is a group of women getting along really well. That's not a good story."

She added: "What is a good story is a bunch of women who adhere to myths and narratives that don't exist in most cases."

Ocean's 8 is the much anticipated female spin-off from the hugely popular Ocean's trilogy, which starred Hollywood hunks Brad Pitt, George Clooney, and Matt Damon.

Led by Sandra Bullock, the film sees a group of women (Anne Hathaway, Cate Blanchett, Mindy Kaling, Rihanna and Sandra Bullock) setting out to pull off a major heist at a Met Gala-like event.

Ocean's 8 is due to hit Australian cinemas on June 7, 2018.
