Broadway star Nick Cordero still 'fighting' despite 'downhill' battle with coronavirus

Broadway star Nick Cordero is still "fighting" despite suffering one setback after another in his battle to beat the coronavirus.

Since being diagnosed with COVID-19 in late March, the actor has been hospitalised and placed in an induced coma before enduring further complications relating to the deadly virus, including leg amputation, irregular heartbeats and septic shock.

But his wife, Amanda Kloots, remains by his side with her faith unwavering during this difficult time.

"The power of prayer is real," she wrote in an Instagram Story on May 22 (US time). "Nick Cordero is fighting. He's got the eye of the tiger. Thank you and keep praying."

In a separate Instagram post, Kloots said that she and the couple's 11-month-old son, Elvis, will remain positive no matter what. 

"When things look down, we look up," she captioned a photo of them playing on the couch. "I have my masters in optimism!" 

Earlier this week, Kloots asked for more prayers from fans as she revealed that his battle was going "downhill".

"Nick has had a bad morning. Unfortunately things are going downhill at the moment, so I am asking again for all the prayers, mega-prayers, right now," an emotional Kloots said in a May 20 video. "Please cheer and please pray for Nick today, and I know that this virus is not going to get him down. It's not how his story ends, so just keep us in your thoughts and prayers today, thank you." 

The latest development comes as a blow given two weeks ago Kloots said Cordero was starting to wake from his coma. She told fans that although he was awake and conscious, he was still "really, really weak".

Still, that didn't stop the couple from FaceTiming each other on Mother's Day. 

"I just did a little FaceTime with Nick and some really great positive little things but I asked him to look up, and he did! And I asked him to look down and he did!" she excitedly shared at the time." That was a fantastic Mother's Day gift to start my day off with."
