Britney Spears hints at new music with singing clip, after warning family she hasn't 'forgotten' what they've done

Britney Spears has serenaded fans in a new Instagram video showing off her musical chops, before captioning the post with a stark warning for her family.

The Toxic singer, 40, posted a clip of herself singing vocals in the mirror to remind the world of the reason she became famous, citing her own celebrity biography in the caption.

Spears also took the opportunity to warn her family that she hasn't "forgotten what they did to me" in a lengthy message about being her own "cheerleader".

"I just realised this today guys… after what my family tried to do to me three years ago… I needed to be my own cheerleader," Spears captioned the video.

"Multi-platinum, Grammy Award-winning pop icon Britney Spears is one of the most successful and celebrated entertainers in pop history with nearly 100 million records sold worldwide. In the U.S. alone, she has sold more than 70 million albums, singles and songs, according to Nielsen Music. Spears has sold 33.6 million albums in the U.S. and ranks as the 18th-best selling album artist in the Nielsen era.

She continued: "Her songs have drawn 25 billion in cumulative radio airplay audience and 2.6 billion on-demand U.S. audio and video streams combined and she's sold 39.8 million singles (36.9 million via downloads)."

The Crossroads star — who recently celebrated the termination of her 13-year conservatorship — went on to hint she would be releasing new music for the first time since 2016.

"No … I'm not auditioning for anything !!!! I'm reminding myself and the world of who I am !!!! Yes … I will be my own cheerleader," Spears added. "Why ???? I'm here to remind my white 'classy' family that I haven't forgotten what they did to me nor will I ever forget."

Spears added: "Pssss new song in the works … I'm gonna let you know what I mean !!!!!"

It's not the first time Spears has posted a cryptic message to her Instagram amid the fallout of her conservatorship battle.

Last week, the singer posted a photo of herself suggesting she was starting a family with fiancé Sam Asghari.

"New addition to the family," Spears captioned her video in which she faced away from the camera rocked back and forth with a baby bottle in one hand.

During her conservatorship hearing, which resulted in her being freed from her father's control, the pop star said she'd like to get married and have more children but claimed her conservatorship was blocking her.

"I was told right now in the conservatorship, I'm not able to get married or have a baby, I have an (IUD) inside of myself right now so I don't get pregnant," Spears said during a virtual address.

"I wanted to take the (IUD) out so I could start trying to have another baby. But this so-called team won't let me go to the doctor to take it out because they don't want me to have children — any more children."

Spears is the mother of two children, Sean, 15, and Jayden, 14, who she shares with her ex Kevin Federline.
