'Why did I do that?' Britney Spears regrets her 'dumb' 2001 MTV VMAs snake dance
It's been 15 years since Britney Spears draped a python over her shoulders mid-performance at the 2001 MTV VMAs. But apparently, that's not long ago enough for the singer.
During an interview with E! News on the set of her new music video 'Make Me', the 34-year-old noticeably recoiled when the reporter mentioned her infamous onstage snake stunt.
"It's insane," she says in the clip above, which includes the notorious moment.
Despite Britney's regrets, the song 'I'm a Slave 4 U' went on to be a commercial success, thanks to her controversial snake dance. But her VMAs stunt did have its detractors: At the time, animal rights group PETA slammed the star for her use of exotic animals in the performance.
It was also one of Britney's most iconic moments ever. Well, alongside her 'Baby One More Time' schoolgirl look and her three-way pash with Madonna and Christina Aguilera at the 2001 VMAs.
