Britney Spears' boyfriend Sam Asghari says her father Jamie is 'trying to control' their relationship

Britney Spears' boyfriend Sam Asghari is speaking out following the release of the Framing Britney Spears documentary.

Asghari, 27, shared a message to Instagram where he addressed Spears' father Jamie's need to "control our relationship."

"Now it's important for people to understand that I have zero respect for someone trying to control our relationship and constantly throwing obstacles our way," he wrote. "In my opinion, Jamie is a total d--k. I won't be going into details because I've always respected our privacy but at the same time, I didn't come to this country to not be able to express my opinion and freedom."

In a separate statement to People, the dancer shared his unwavering support for his girlfriend in light of the film's debut.

"I have always wanted nothing but the best for my better half, and will continue to support her following her dreams and creating the future she wants and deserves," he told the outlet last night. "I am thankful for all of the love and support she is receiving from her fans all over the world, and I am looking forward to a normal, amazing future together."

The remarks come as the New York Times documentary on Spears has been airing in the U.S. It follows Spears' meteoric rise to fame and her court-ordered conservatorship that has existed for over a decade.

Her father has served as the conservator of Spears' finances since 2008. Lately, the 'Stronger' singer has been trying to have him removed as her conservatorship.

Many celebrities like Sarah Jessica Parker and Miley Cyrus have gotten behind Spears following the film's release.

Asghari met Spears on the set of her music video for 'Slumber Party' in 2016. They struck up a romance the following year, and have been together ever since.

"I was excited that I get to meet one of the biggest artists of all time," Asghari told Men's Health at the time. "I had butterflies."
