Two years after their divorce was finalised, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s custody agreement has come to an end as their youngest children, twins Knox and Vivienne, turn 18.
The former couple shares six children, Maddox, 24, Pax, 22, Zahara, 21, Shiloh 20, and Knox and Vivienne, born in Nice, France on July 12, 2008.

Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt in September 2016 after 12 years together, marking a shocking end to one of the world’s most famous couples.
The pair were caught up in an eight-year legal battle over their shared assets and custody of their children, only settling their divorce in December 2024.
Now, less than two years later, their custody agreement comes to a close, marking the beginning of a new chapter for both Pitt and Jolie.
With all six children now legal adults, the former couple are free from the restraints of their custody agreement.
In 2014, Jolie told The Hollywood Reporter that the only reason she was living in LA was due to the conditions of the agreement.
“As soon as they’re 18, I’ll be able to leave,” she said.
“I’ll spend a lot of time in Cambodia. I’ll spend time visiting my family members wherever they may be in the world.”
Speaking with Variety in June, she seemed to imply that the family is well aware of and has been anticipating the newfound freedom she would have on the twins’ 18th birthday.
“My kids are almost all 18, so now they want to see me travelling the world, they want me to get out and do things,” Jolie said.
“They know me more than anybody, and they still like me, which says a lot. I think they’re very encouraging of me kind of getting back to aspects of myself that maybe I hadn’t felt as free to do.”
As for Pitt, he is largely estranged from his six children, five of whom have chosen to publicly remove Pitt from their last name, now simply going solely by the surname Jolie.
Shiloh was the first to legally change her name when turning 18 in 2024. Maddox filed legal documents to officially drop the name soon after, having previously been cited as Maddox Jolie in the credits of the film Couture.

Zahara publicly dropped the surname during her college commencement ceremony in May 2026, and later legally filed to change her name to Zahara Jolie.
Vivienne chose to be credited as Vivienne Jolie for the 2024 Broadway production of The Outsiders, and Knox chose to have the name Knox Jolie on his high school diploma.
Pax is the only child who has not publicly chosen to drop his father’s surname.
Although their divorce is settled and their custody agreement over, Jolie and Pitt remain tied up in a contentious, multi-million dollar legal battle over their French winery, Château Miraval.
