Billy Joel’s ex-wife details uncomfortable encounter with Chevy Chase, after he mistook her for staff
Billy Joel’s ex-wife Katie Lee Biegel has detailed an awkward encounter with controversial comedian Chevy Chase.
In an episode of her podcast, All on the Table with Katie Lee Biegel, Biegel, 44, recounted a time when Chase, 82, shooed her away after mistaking her for wait staff at a Hollywood party.

Biegel recalled the frosty run-in after a podcast listener asked about the nicest and not-so-nice celebrities she’s met over the years.
“My celebrity run-in that was not so nice was Chevy Chase,” Biegel began.
The cooking show host explained the incident took place during her marriage to the Uptown Girl singer, whom she married in 2004 before divorcing in 2009.
Biegel said she and Joel hosted an “old-school keg party” at a house they planned to demolish.
“We decided to have a kind of tear-the-house-down party, keg party, and I had Jell-O shots, kegs. It was a very star-studded party,” she recalled.
“My ex-husband was standing talking to Chevy Chase and his wife and I had a tray of Jell-O shots,” Biegel said.
“And I went up with the tray of Jell-O shots and said, ‘Do you guys want a shot?’ and Chevy thought that I was the staff at the party.”
“And he took his hand and shooed me away,” she added.

Chase has long had a reputation for being difficult to work with.
Despite being a comedy icon, his controversial personality has overshadowed much of his later career due to decades of well-documented feuds with co-stars, on-set meltdowns, and allegations of unprofessional behaviour.
Biegel was married to Joel for five years. They met in a New York hotel in 2002 and married two years later, when she was 23 and he was 55.
Their high-profile marriage eventually ended amicably.
Biegel is a star in her own right, a cookbook author, television food critic, host and chef.

After her marriage to Joel, she found lasting romance with television producer Ryan Biegel. They married in 2018 and welcomed a daughter in 2020.
Joel went on to marry Alexis Roderick, an equestrian and executive, in 2015.
They welcomed two daughters, one a month after they married in August 2015 and a second in October 2017. The pair are still together.
