Billy Brownless opens up about wife's affair with best friend Garry Lyon

Billy Brownless has gotten candid about the difficult time of learning his wife Nicky was having an affair with his best friend Garry Lyon.

Brownless opened up about the scandal on Thursday's episode of I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!

While washing dishes together, the retired AFL star told Rhonda Burchmore, "It was public, very public. Front pages and all that."

News of the affair broke in 2016. He explained to Burchmore that Nicky had "fallen out of love" with him.

"We had separated, which surprised a few. Well, she left me, really," he continued. "She just fell out of love which happens, you know?"

"I didn't expect it. You think she'll come back and all that, but she didn't, so that was a good kick in the guts," he said, adding of former AFL player Lyon, "She's shacked up with one of my good mates. And he's in the media, too."

Prior to the infidelity, Brownless and Lyon had been friends for 15 years. They worked together on the AFL Footy Show between 2009 and 2015.

As for a reconciliation with his old friend, Brownless appeared hopeful. 

"We're not best mates, there was no Christmas cards or anything," he said on the reality show.

"One day, we'll sit down and have a beer. One day. Time heals."
