Barack Obama sends handwritten note to Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez to congratulate them on engagement

No big deal, but Barack Obama just sent a handwritten note to Alex Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez to congratulate them on their engagement.

The former US President and his wife, Michelle Obama, gave the happy couple their stamp of approval with the heartfelt message, which was written on his personalised stationery.

"Jennifer and Alex, Michelle and I just wanted to congratulate you on your engagement," read the note, which Rodriguez proudly shared on Instagram.

"This means the world to us," gushed the former New York Yankee.

Obama then ended the message with some sage marriage advice for the celebrity pair.

"After 26 years together, we can say that whatever challenges life may bring, sharing them with someone you love makes it all better," he penned. "All the best, Barack Obama."

Rodriguez, 43, and Lopez, 49, got engaged on March 10 after dating for two years. He popped the big question during a romantic getaway in the Bahamas, presenting the singer with a stunning 16-carat, emerald-cut white diamond estimated to be worth US$5 million.

"She said yes," Rodriguez happily captioned the pic of Lopez wearing the ring.

But their engagement was a long time coming for the couple, who knew from the start of their relationship that their love was something special.

"We're really happy," Lopez told People days after their engagement, while Rodriguez said, "We have [an] appreciation for where we are in our lives today, and that's what we're enjoying the most."
