Australia is renowned for producing stellar acting talents, and while many of our local stars go on to become global names, fame can be fleeting… and not everyone can be a Hemsworth.

There was a time when the talented artists listed below were at the forefront of our minds, and for good reason. Their work is so fantastic, and their charisma so strong that they've amassed some pretty impressive credits to their names, many of which can be found on Stan. As the undisputed home of Aussie content, there's no shortage of iconic local classics available to binge on demand.

Below are 10 Aussie celebrities who may have slipped your mind, but are totally worth a revisit.

Pia Miranda

Looking for Alibrandi was the novel that almost everyone read in school, and Pia Miranda became the face of Australian adolescence when she starred in the movie adaptation.

Only just starting to flex her acting muscles, Miranda went on to appear in numerous stage and screen productions.

Now, she's reappeared as a fan favourite on reality TV, where she's fighting it out to be the sole Survivor.

Sophie Lee

Sophie Lee has appeared in some of the most iconic movies to ever come out of our country, including Muriel's Wedding and The Castle.

The 51-year-old actress is now also a successful author. Based in London, she writes novels for children and adults and regularly blogs.

Adam Garcia

Adam Garcia is the acting/dancing/singing sensation who melted hearts in Coyote Ugly.

He's now a happily married dad, and has turned his talents to the stage, appearing in the London production of Wicked alongside Idina Menzel.  He's also appeared as a judge on reality TV dance shows including Dancing with the Stars and Dance Boss and teaches tap dancing classes in London.

Nick Giannopoulos

Greek-Australian comedian Nick Giannopoulos found national fame in 2000 with his breakthrough film The Wog Boy, which is the 20th highest-grossing Australian movie of all time. Now, he's shifted his comedy back to the stage, touring with the hit show Wogs at Work.

Clare Bowen

Clare Bowen is best known for her role as Scarlett O'Connor in musical-drama series Nashville, and in a case of life imitating art, got engaged to her musician husband at the Grand Ole Opry. She's now making music full time and has just released a debut solo album.

Aaron Jeffery

After playing hunky farmer Alex Ryan in McLeod's Daughter's from 2001-2008, Aaron Jeffery underwent a major physical transformation when he reappeared in 2018 to star as the infamous gangster Mark 'Chopper' Read in Underbelly Files: Chopper - The Untold Story.

Speaking to 9Honey Celebrity, Jeffery admitted that people treat him differently when he gains weight for a role.

"As a society, there seems to be a prejudice against bigger people," he said in 2017. "You do notice when you're carrying a bit of weight that people treat you differently. I'm lucky that I'm only doing it for a short amount of time."

Tim Minchin

Perth born comedy songwriter Tim Minchin achieved global success while living in the US, where he starred as washed-up rock star Atticus Fetch in Californication. He's now going back to his first love, the stage, and is touring the world playing sold out theatres with his latest show, Back.

Stephen Curry

Stephen Curry played the beloved youngest son Dale Kerrigan in 1997's The Castle.

Since then the award-winning actor and comedian, 43, has starred in a string of heart-warming homegrown films, but his biggest claim to fame right now is getting confused for Australian NBA star Stephen Curry.

"It's just not fair, I was around way longer than him, I was Dale Kerrigan when that kid was nine years old," he recently told The Greenfield Post.

"Our names aren't even pronounced the same but suddenly I'm the lesser Stephen Curry and that's not fair."

Corinne Grant

Comedian Corinne Grant was everywhere in the mid 2000s. A regular on the comedy festival circuit and a darling of Australian TV, she dropped off the radar a few years ago to pursue her other love, the law. Now a practising lawyer, Grant has no regrets about leaving showbiz behind.

Caitlin Stasey

Former child star Caitlin Stasey's breakout role was in the cinematic version of Tomorrow When The War Began.  She then moved to Los Angeles where she starred as Lady Kenna in the royal series Reign from 2013 to 2015. Since then, she's appeared in a few indie films and had some minor roles in TV.
