Aussie fans scramble for Bruno Mars tickets as extra stadium shows added to meet demand

Bruno Mars fans have been left scrambling for tickets to his upcoming Australian tour following an unprecedented surge in demand across the country.

Hundreds of thousands of Sydney fans logged onto Ticketmaster at midday on Friday for the general sale, only to find that allocation across all three dates at Accor Stadium was nearly exhausted within minutes.

By 12.06pm, Ticketmaster alerted waiting buyers that tickets for the Thursday and Friday night shows (March 4 and March 5) were down to single digits.

Twenty minutes later, the ticketing giant advised fans that their “best chance” of securing a spot was for the newly added Monday night show (March 8), which was tacked onto the schedule after “incredible demand” during presales.

By 12.50pm, tickets for the third show at Accor stadium, which holds up to 80,000 fans, were flying off the website – so much so, that the company announced a fourth show for the Tuesday night (March 9) had been added, rushing it onto sale just 10 minutes later.

As an avid concertgoer who has waited in dozens of ticket queues, I haven’t seen demand like this since Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour.

The 24-carat hitmaker initially announced just six stadium shows across Perth, Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney, with promoter Live Nation adding another five shows across the country following the presale frenzy last week.

Queensland buyers faced similar chaos when their general sale launched at 1pm. Within 15 minutes, Ticketmaster confirmed that tickets to both Suncorp Stadium shows were nearly gone.

The company is yet to announce additional dates for the Brisbane show.

In Melbourne, general sales opened at 2pm, with Ticketmaster warning fans just eight minutes later that February 19 and 20 shows were on the brink of selling out before the queue even cleared.

Fans were again pointed toward the third and fourth dates on February 23 and 24, but by 2.50pm, those also had limited availability. No additional shows have been announced.

The nationwide scramble comes as no surprise.

Mars’ international dates across North America, Europe, and the UK broke the single-day sales records for Live Nation, with more than 2.1 million tickets sold in a single day on Ticketmaster.

Mars will bring his The Romantic Tour to stadiums across Australia in February next year, starting in Perth, Melbourne and Brisbane before heading to Sydney in March.

The last time Mars underwent a huge Aussie tour was in 2018 for his 24K Magic World Tour. He also performed two nights in Sydney in 2022, but other cities missed out.
