Celebrity chef Art Smith has found there's been a silver lining from being stuck in isolation.

Smith, who is known as Oprah Winfrey's personal chef, revealed that he's lost 70 lbs (31 kgs) in quarantine.

Smith credited his family friend, Lucas Cancelier, for his weight loss success after he visited him in Florida with his family. Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, Cancelier decided to quarantine at Smith's home in Florida and the pair endeavoured to set up a realistic health and fitness regime for him to follow.

"[Cancelier] said, 'Let's try something!' He put together an exercise routine for me. We ran to the sporting goods store and got some simple things like a yoga mat. And when nobody could go to the gym, we started running on railroad tracks turned into a walking path," Smith told US Today. "Who would ever think that a pro rugby player would get stuck with me and that he would change my whole life? He's more than a coach. He's a mentor."

"February 1, 2020 a friend from Argentina came to visit and saved my life," he wrote on his personal Instagram on May 3. "Under his professional guidance, even with a #pandemic we met our goal."

Smith admitted that cutting out processed sugar, and finding an exercise routine that he genuinely enjoyed doing was the secret to him shedding the excess weight.

He added: "If you want to enjoy eating, you have to enjoy training. You train 30 minutes in your house and you can enjoy it. You make it normal."
