Ariel Winter defends controversial red carpet outfit choice with scathing statement

Ariel Winter will wear what she wants, thank you very much.

The 19-year-old sitcom star hit back at critics on Friday, after she raised eyebrows over a red carpet appearance in which she looked particularly glammed up compared to the rest of her Modern Family co-stars.   

Taking to social media, Ariel penned a fiery statement directed at those who questioned her outfit choice at the screening of the show's season-eight finale on Wednesday.  

"Why TF does anyone care that I didn’t dress casual like everyone else for the panel?" Ariel wrote in an Instagram post. "Why do I have to be like everyone else?"

"Why can’t people just let other people feel good about themselves and do what they want?" Ariel continued. "WEAR WHATEVER YOU WANT PEOPLE!"

The actress signed off writing: "As long as you feel good about yourself that’s what matters. I know I did. Don’t ever let anyone stifle who you are and how your express yourself. Rant over :)."

Many of Ariel's fans were quick to rally behind her.

"Next time just wear your underwear," one fan wrote. "Don't let nobody stop you."

"Slay queen," another wrote.

While others had some different feelings: "You looked ridiculous."

Still, it's not like Ariel lets the trolls get to her. The actress has had more than her fair share of haters in the past, and it seems this was just another bump in the road.

As she said, "As long as you feel good about yourself that’s what matters."
