Christine Estera

The ARIA Awards 2020 are done and dusted for another year but the memories and moments will live on for the big winners of the night.

Leading the way with five wins out for seven nominations are psychedelic rock band Tame Impala, who took out the night top gong, Album of the Year, for their offering The Slow Rush. They also won for Best Group, Best Rock Album and Engineer Of The Year.

"The amount of amazing Australian producers is skyrocketing and I'm proud to be part of the gang," said Tame Impala's Kevin Parker, who also won Producer of the Year.

Aussie-based rapper Sampa The Great received six ARIA nominations and went home with an impressive three awards for her debut album The Return: Best Female Artist, Best Hip Hop Release and  Best Independent Release.

"Young black artists, young people of colour keep doing what you are doing," she urged her peers in her speech. "Keep bringing the stories to the forefront because now we get to see a side of Australia that was never shown. I'm sending all my love to Black women who are in hip-hop. It often feels isolated and masculine. You can step into whatever genre and be you. You can define genres."
