Ansel Elgort wants to 'fall in love with people' that aren't his girlfriend

Ansel Elgort is opening up about his feelings towards having an open relationship that doesn't involve sex.

Despite being in a relationship with his high school girlfriend, ballerina Violetta Komyshan, The Goldfinch actor expressed his desire to feel free to fall in love with women that aren't his girlfriend.

"It doesn't need to be sexual. I could be done sexually with my girlfriend," Elgort said in an interview with The Times.

"I think we've been pretty clear that I want to feel free to fall in love with people and that [option] should be open, but sexually it can be closed off."

Elgort appears to be interested in exploring open relationships without it turning into a physical relationship.

"I'm in love with a bunch of my male friends who I'm not interested in having sex with, so why can't I put the desire to have sex with women aside and let myself have love with women? I love [The Fault in Our Stars co-star] Shailene Woodley and we never had anything sexual and that was great. There will probably be some sort of chemical thing at some point that you can't help, but you just have to be disciplined and not be a f---… We're primitive beings," Eglort added.

Elgort has been dating Komyshan since their final year of high school. They split briefly for five months, but got back together after Elgort felt the hole of her absence.

"I knew something was missing, and I was like, 'Oh, that's love,'" Elgort added.
