Singer Amy Grant recovers from open heart surgery after receiving rare diagnosis from routine checkup

Amy Grant is recovering from open heart surgery after discovering she had a rare heart condition during a routine checkup this year.

The 59-year-old's procedure was successful and she's now on the mend, according to her team.

"She had open heart surgery to correct a condition from birth the doctors discovered during a heart check up called PAPVR," Grant's representative said. "Thankfully the doctor said it could not have gone better. We're praying for a full and easy recovery over the next few days, weeks, and months to come."

Grant was informed she had a condition called partial anomalous pulmonary venous return.

The 'Every Heartbeat' singer's team informed fans via her official Facebook page that she needed surgery to correct it.

"From Team Amy — with all that is going on in our world that needs our collective prayer, please also join us in praying for Amy this week as she has heart surgery to correct her PAPVR condition," the post read on Wednesday.

Partial anomalous pulmonary venous return means one or more of pulmonary veins carrying blood from the lungs to the heart to flow into other blood vessels or into the heart's right atrium, rather than entering the heart's left atrium.
