Alanis Morissette's ex-manager stole millions from her, sentenced to six years in prison

Alanis Morissette has found justice after her former business manager was sentenced to six years in prison for embezzling millions of dollars from the rock star.

Jonathan Schwartz, a certified public accountant, previously worked for prestigious Los Angeles firm GSO Business Management.

According to a federal judge's sentence on Thursday, he was ordered to pay the Canadian singer $8,657,268 in restitution.

The 'You Oughta Know' singer was present during the sentencing hearing, and said he acted in "long, drawn-out, calculated and sinister manner" and prevented her from "being able to focus on her family and causes," the Agence France-Presse reported.

He said he stole $4.8 million from her between 2010 and 2014. He admitted to misleading the singer about her finances, saying that the withdrawals were for her personal expenses.

When she confronted him over the money, he admitted that he lied about investing her money into the burgeoning marijuana industry. The ex-manager also admitted to stealing $1 million from another client to pay for alleged home renovations and $737,000 from another, whose signature he forged on receipts, the AFP reported.

The Jagged Little Pill singer shot to fame in the 1990s with chart-topping hits 'Ironic', 'You Oughta Know', and 'You Learn'. She married fellow musician Souleye in 2010 and welcomed daughter Onyx Solace in July 2016. They are also parents to son Ever Imre, 5.

Alanis previously dated Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds from 2002-2007.
