Ada Nicodemou reveals why she disclosed her breast augmentation

Ada Nicodemou lashed out at Instagram trolls last month after candidly revealing that she had undergone both Botox and a breast augmentation, but now she's "taking her power back".

Every time she shared a stunning snap in her bikini or a gorgeous shot of her tropical vacation to the Maldives, the Home and Away star was inundated with unsolicited comments about her body.

"I let it roll for a really long time until I did realise it was affecting me," the 41-year-old said today on The Morning Show of the trolls who frequently comment on her photos.

Even the most confident of us can break under pressure, and when the hate grew too much the Home and Away star decided to speak out.

"I'm taking my power back," she said of her decision to reveal her cosmetic procedures.

"But I'm taking my power back for other young women out there who can't do that."

In her original Instagram comment, Nicodemou admitted to "rarely" using Botox and made it clear to the trolls that the only "fake" part of her was her breast augmentation, which she reminded followers she "had every right to do".

At the time Nicodemou spoke out about how trolling and comments about women's bodies often start without malice, but can quickly turn into vicious cyberbullying and harassment.

"I think it's completely unacceptable," she said of the trend of strangers commenting on and criticising women's bodies.

But her biggest issue is with the people who are constantly trying to spot when women have had 'work' done, aggressively criticising women they deem "fake" because of their choice to undergo cosmetic procedures.

"We as women have the right to do whatever we want to ourselves to make us feel good about ourselves," Nicodemou insisted.

And the problem doesn't just lie with male commenters -- the original comment Nicodemou lashed out at coming from another woman.

"Have you stopped to think what example this gives to other girls and young women about body shaming and tearing down other women?" she questioned in her original response to the troll.

As cosmetic procedures grow in popularity, more and more celebrities are speaking about their own cosmetic choices and condemning the open stigma around them.

More power to Nicodemou for not only being candid about her experiences, but helping promote a world where it's no longer OK to comment on women's bodies -- no matter what they've had done.
