Actor Danny Goldman, who voiced Brainy Smurf on cartoon The Smurfs, dies following stroke

The man who voiced beloved Brainy Smurf on the popular cartoon The Smurfs has died.

Actor Danny Goldman passed away on April 12 after suffering a couple of strokes earlier this year. 

"It's with great sadness that I must tell you that Danny Goldman has passed away. He passed peacefully at home today amongst family and friends, after having suffered a couple of strokes around New Years," his agent Doug Ely announced on Facebook.

"Danny was truly one of a kind. He always had strong opinions and didn't mind telling you about them," Ely added. "He was incredibly funny. He loved to root for the little guy and help wherever he could. He had a huge heart. We lost a good one today. He will be missed."

Goldman began his career as an actor in the early '70s, landing roles in The Good Life,  The Partridge Family, Room 222, Columbo and M*A*S*H. In 1974, he appeared in Mel Brooks' hit comedy Young Frankenstein, playing the medical student in the film's opening scene. 

But it was Goldman's stint as Brainy Smurf — one of the show's most identifiable characters, thanks to his trademark black spectacles — that he was most known for. The actor voiced the character from the show's debut in 1981 up until 1989.
