Charlize Theron and Sean Penn split just months before wedding

Charlize Theron has called off her engagement to Sean Penn just months before their end of the year wedding.

Sources confirmed with many media outlets, including UsWeekly and E! News, that the the 39-year-old actress called quits after their stint filming together in Europe.

Well, you know what they say about mixing business with pleasure, especially as Penn, 54, was directing Charlize in the drama film, The Last Face.

The pair had been together for almost 18 months, getting engaged in secret six months ago in Paris.

But they've not been spotted together since the end of May, with their last major public appearance taking place at Cannes Film Festival for the premiere of Mad Max: Fury Road.

We're guessing the split will come as a surprise to Penn, who had started the adoption process of Charlize's son, Jackson.

Theron told Esquire in April, "I'm a very, very, very lucky girl. Very lucky. He's hot."

Hot until he directs you in a film? We think so.
