Cat rescued from top of power pole after being missing for three days

A cat has been rescued from the top of a power pole after possibly being stuck up there for three days.

Gypsy, who lives in Phoenix, Arizona, hadn’t been seen since Friday - which was a little out of character.

As we learned from a yarn from ABC15, Gypsy was a “community” cat.

But despite being a bit of a drifter, she was a regular drifter.

So when residents in her street didn’t see her over the weekend, it was a little concerning.

A few days later, Gypsy’s neighbourhood was a frantic scene, when someone noticed her sitting atop a utility pole more than nine metres off the ground.

It’s assumed she was up there the whole weekend, but no one can be sure.

Even if she was only up there a little while, it still wouldn’t have been overly pleasant.

There’s not a lot of room up there, meaning one wrong move could have sent her hurtling to the ground.

People freaked the heck out.

ABC15 Arizona broadcast the dramatic scene in a Facebook live stream, with Fox10 Phoenix also covering the whole thing live.

And, despite being about 10.30am on a Monday morning, people were watching.

Nearly 800,000 people viewed ABC15’s video, which lasted for more than an hour.

The local fire department was inundated with calls from people around the country to rescue her, with the firies reaching out to local news teams to ask viewers not to contact 911.

The whole thing also blew up on Twitter, being turned into a Twitter Moment  in the US News category on Tuesday morning.

Live Tweets from USA Today reporter Christal Hayes got intense:

We don’t know how Gypsy got up there and we don’t know exactly how long she was stuck, but at least we know she’s safe on the gorund.

Fingers crossed that she doesn’t go up there again.

We don’t think our poor nerves could take it.
