Honey, I'm home! 50,000 bees living in woman's roof for three years

More than 50,000 bees have been removed from the ceiling of a Sunshine Coast home, in a gruelling 12-hour extraction procedure.

The bee colony was discovered in the bathroom of the home, with honey stores discovered 1.2 metres back into the roof cavity.

Apiarist Scott Whitaker told the ABC the encounter could “only be described as a monster”.

The home’s owner had lived with the unlikely housemates for more than three years, after seeing the original swarm enter a hole in the exterior wall of her Nambour home.

Mr Whitaker used an angle grinder, ladder and vacuum in his delicate extraction operation.
