Unlucky deputy sheriff has to break bear out of car

This CCTV footage looks like a sheriff gone bad.

We mean, look how shifty that guy looks, sneaking around the car in the dark of night.

But really, this guy is a hero.

He’s the sheriff’s deputy at Placer County, California and it looks like he drew the short straw.

Because it was his job to free a bear who found itself stuck in a car.

The rescue mission is going viral after it was posted to the Placer County Sheriff's Office Facebook page on Wednesday, clocking up nearly 330,000 views in two days.

“The bear got into a Subaru Outback in Carnelian Bay and destroyed the interior so badly that the doors couldn’t be unlocked,” a sheriff spokesperson said.

“It was decided the safest way to get the bear out of the car was to break the window.

“Deputy Lade was brave enough to break the window, allowing the bear to jump out and flee into the forest.

“He did what he had to do and then moved out of the way.”

Apparently it’s fairly common for bears to climb into cars in the warmer California months.

After coming out of hibernation, the bears are on the hunt for food and will venture into suburbia for a feed.

As such, people are wanted not to leave food in their cars.

“They can open car doors and it happens A LOT,” a sheriff spokesperson said.

“You definitely have to be careful what you leave in your car in the Tahoe area.”
