Baby elephant rescued after it fell down a 7.5m well in Sri Lanka

When a baby elephant fell down a well in Sri Lanka, the situation looked hopeless.

The poor little thing was so far down.

It was crammed.

It was dark.

And there was no way the calf could get out on its own.

Thankfully, a group of concerned locals came to its aid, but it wasn’t an easy rescue.

They had to bring in an excavator to dig out the 7.5m well, which was a delicate job.

The operator had to make sure the debris didn’t fall and hit the baby elephant, who was already in a state of distress.

It took more than one-and-a-half hours, but eventually a ramp was dug for out so the elephant could climb to safety.

The calf eventually managed to pull itself out of the pit before scampering off into the jungle.
