Amazon’s Alexa is freaking people out with her creepy, unprompted cackle

Well this is creepy.

Amazon’s voice-active digital assistant Alexa has reportedly been laughing at random moments and, according to reports, just generally being a creep.

The video you see above, posted to Twitter by someone who goes by the username of @CaptHandlebar, is going viral as people take to social media to share their harrowing Alexa stories.

Apparently, she’ll just randomly laugh completely unprompted.

And it’s not just a chuckle – it sounds kind of evil.

Like, there’s some villainous malice in there.

The creepy thing is that this “cackle” isn’t Alexa’s pre-programed laugh.

Amazon told The Verge journo Shannon Liao they were across the sitch.

“We’re aware of this and working to fix it,” a spokesperson said.

So far, we’re yet to hear what exactly is causing this.

It could be a simple glitch, but it could also be the beginning of the uprising of possessed electronic assistants.
