Expectant couple use an alligator and a watermelon to reveal the gender of their baby

We’re living in a time when gender reveal videos are a standard pregnancy milestone.

If you’ve somehow managed to get through life without enduring this modern-day ritual, it’s essentially a couple making a big song and dance about which the reproductive organs the bun in their proverbial oven has.

It’s usually something cutesy like cutting into a cake or popping a balloon to reveal the colour pink or blue.

But this Louisiana couple decided to go with something a little more extreme.

Instead, Mike Kliebert and Rebecca Miller recruited an alligator, filled a watermelon with jelly, and gathered their family around.

As you do.

In the video, you can see the gator crushing the melon to reveal the blue, boy-confirming goo inside.

The gator then edges towards the family, with Kliebert wrestling the animal before things get any crazier.

Proud grandmother Melody Kliebert recorded the whole thing, posting the clip to Facebook on Sunday.

And of course, something as bonkers as this attracted some attention.

By Wednesday, the video had been viewed more than 3.4 million times.

As we learned from a report from Fox News, this dude didn’t just wrangle some alligator from a creek nearby.

And he's no amateur when it comes to big reptiles. 

He was raised on the Klierbert’s Turtle and Alligator farm and calls himself the “Gator King”.

Kliebert also featured in the first season of Swamp People, so there’s that too.

And while some people criticised the family for “antagonising” the animal, Klierbert defended the video.

“This gator is named Sally and part of our family,” he said on Facebook.

“She is 60 years old.

“[It’s] kinda like a person riding a horse in a parade but the horse tries to do something a bit different and the rider pulls that rope that is attached to the metal bar in its mouth making it do what he wants.”
