Westpac reveals 'wearable payment' accessory

One of Australia's big four banks has unveiled a wearable payment accessory that will allow customers to tap-and-pay hands-free.

Westpac revealed the PayWear today, which includes a silicone band and a 'keeper' that can be be attached to existing fitness bands and watches.

"Customers can tap and pay in the same way they regularly do with their debit card, without having to reach for their wallet or smartphone, through the new range of waterproof and battery-free wearable accessories," Westpac said in a statement.

Westpac said it had carefully designed the new accessories after research showed 70 percent of Australians "would only wear a wearable device if it suited their own personal style and lifestyle".

The product will be available in early December.

It follows the release of other wearable technologies such as the Fitbit, which has enjoyed success globally.
