Victorian birth, death and marriage records to go online

Victoria will fully digitise its registry for births, deaths and marriages.
The government has announced it will soon call for tenders to replace the state's 27-year-old registry system.
The new registry will support online searches of Victoria's 14 million records.
"Victorians deserve a consistent, fast, digital system for their important records," Attorney-General Martin Pakula said yesterday.
"Given the volume of data held by Births, Deaths and Marriages, this project is vital to its successful operation into the future."
Each year the registry records about 77,000 births, 37,000 deaths, 29,000 marriages and 11,000 name changes.
